HVAC Problems
HVAC units are typically very reliable and can “live” longer than the average pet, however sometimes, like any mechanical unit they run into problems. Many common problems are easily fixable and can even be do-it-yourself projects, however for the big jobs, its best to leave it to the professionals.
Here are some of the most common HVAC problems:
Worn out filters
Your HVAC filter is what keeps the dust, dirt, and pollen from circulating into your home. Overtime they get to be very dirty and should be replaced often. Simply take a look at your HVAC owner’s manual if you need more information.
Clogged drain line
During the times when your HVAC system works the hardest, your drain line can potentially be pumping out 7.5 liters of water a day. If your drain line becomes clogged the drain pan can over flow and create water damage. To keep your drain line clear, flush it out once a season with 1 parts bleach and 3 parts water.
Thermostat mishaps
Your HVAC’s thermostat is the “brains” of the operation. It tells your HVAC unit what to do and when to do it. If your system isn’t performing up to par check to make sure your thermostat batteries work and it’s on the right setting. This may sound like a no brainer but it is very common!
Blown Fuses
The fuses protect your HVAC unit’s motor or compressor from overheating. If the breaker trips on its own, you may want to call a technician as this is the first sign that the motor is going bad.
Although your HVAC unit is the “silent member” of your family, be sure to take note of any changes in performance and energy bills. They are important notes to give your technician during your annual maintenance check. If there ever is a problem requiring HVAC parts, give us a call down at Snowdon.
